Intel HD 4000 series GPU question.
 

Hi.

I`m thinking about upgrading my PC in the near future, and because I had some minor but very annoying problems (like video tearing, low FPS or 99% CPU usage by xorg while navigating a simple web page) with both ATI and NVIDIA graphic cards, this time I would like to try out Intel`s HD4000 series GPU.

Can somebody tell me if the problems mentioned above exist on Intel GPU`s too?

If you're throwing out ati or nvidia (reasonable card, properly set up) you're divorcing Cinderella to marry an ugly step-sister :-).

But if every manufacturer has these problems, than what is the solution? Until now I tried out two Nvidia cards, an 8600gts and gtx200, they behaved the same way. Recently I bought an ATI HD 6670, same thing. Only difference, that catalyst now has the tear free option, which works, but kills the performance.

Buy right. Set it up right.

Most video cards will handle browsing. Anything you are buying should. Tearing in a browser is either
1. Bandwidth
2. Flash not using dri (you can set that up in the config file)

Nvidia & ATI/AMD are the big 2. Specifically, they pack more parallel processing cores in the hardware and more usable formats in the software. Intel is coming along fast, but my hd4000 won't do OpenCL, for instance. Laptops are a special issue because most have 2 gpus using one to do heavy lifting and the other to save power. There was a Lengthy Discussion Here, with plenty of good advice for everyone - less than 6 months back.
