Intel 965 Comptability
OK. I have an original Intel chipset, G965. I am unable to run ANY Linux distro and after a lot of research, I found it is related to something called JMicron. There are various solutions posted all over the net, but I can't find any to work.
My question is which distro currently supports this CHIPSET FULLY. I mean everything should work. My main area of interest is to learn basic terminal usage, so any distro will do. I have tried - Ubunut, Suse 10.2, Dynebolic and others. None of them works. Please help I can't dump this machine! |
If you want to run leading edge hardware, you need to run leading edge software. Fedora 7.
Update: The JMicron SATA controller has nothing to do with the Intel 965 chipset. If you are having problems with SATA drives, move them to other SATA ports. |

I have a Dell 520 which has Intel G965 Chipset, it had problems on Ubuntu Edgy for graphic card, however on fiesty it works fine including 3D. Everything else working fine too, i have two SATA hard drives which work out of the box with Fiesty. The problem with Graphic card has now been resolved as Ubuntu has added debian driver for G965 into their repository. I have seen repeated reports of G965 success with Fedora core too however I have not used that myself. |
Ah.. Fedora

You need to boot with option "pci=nommconf" and/or set your SATA mode to legacy in the BIOS. |

If it's about JMicron stuff, you should try to start the kernel by giving him irqpoll argument and set the JMicron chip to AHCI mode in the BIOS.
