Intel 810 sound card problems

i have just installed kernel 2.6.5 on my system. i have an Intel 810 sound card in it and i cant get it to work. i have tried to set it as a module but i when i type "modprobe snd-intel8x0" i get a fatal error saying that it doesnt exist. i tried to build it in, but when i do "Dmesg | more" i get
"no sound cards found" and same with alsaconf. thanks for the help.

just a little ? i type pico /etc/modules.conf, and there is nothing in that file. i have some modules loaded such as my NIC but nothing it there, dont know if thats a problem or not. Thanks

i had the same thing while using suse 9 and installing the 2.6.1 kernel RPM. same thing as you, so i compiled my own 2.6 kernel from source. same thing.

it turns out, if you want it working, you might just have to upgrade your distro. im using the mandrake 10 with the 2.6 kernel and everything works.

i have tried a few things like you did to get it working, but i failed. i just reverted back to the 2.4 kernels, and waited for mandrake 10. im using mdk 10 2.6 kernel and im happy as can be :-)

I had sound problems also...

...on my Dell CPi (used a weirdo CS4237B sound chip). I downloaded Alsa-1.0.4 and now it works like a charm.

I also just bought a new Compaq laptop (with your intel sound chip) and Alsa had it working immediately!

If you want simple instructions, go here:
http://users.ev1.net/~arfonrg/Linux-...und/index.html

****NOTE!!!!!****
Change the line that says:
./configure --with-cards=cs4236 --with-sequencer=yes;make;make install

to:
./configure;make;make install

and it should work. Note, you'll have to re do this if you re-compile your kernel and mess up your existing modules.

There are a few fabrications out. i think it's ac97. mine is a cirrus logic CS4297a
and works happily with 2.4* and 6.1 / 6.5. check io-ports and hardware with lspci (-v). is your kernel homegrown? btw. i just keep using oss.

sl mritch.
