Intel 537 modem problem

Hey ppl.

Im having trouble with my modem on FC2. I donīt really know who is the manufacturer, and on windoze, when i look under the modem drivers, it tells me that it is a

Intel(R) 537 Data Fax Voice V.92 Modem

I have downloaded many files and intel 537 drivers and none seem to work. I got it up and working when i was in RH9, but now in FC2 i havent been able to do anything.

When i was in red hat, the 537 EP didn't work., nor the 537 EA. It worked when i found a plane old 537 driver. I need help on this cuz i hate cruisin the web on windoze.

Have a look at the scanmodem tool and further information at Linmodems:

http://linmodems.org/

>> I have downloaded many files and intel 537 drivers and none seem to work.<<

Any particular errors or sticking points?

cuchumino 09-04-2004 10:05 AM

i have done that already.
should i post a file made from the scan file on here??

umm i recall getting a not found in /proc/devices/Intel537

or something like that

this is the modemdata file that is a result of running scanmodem

 --------------  System information ------------------------
 redhat Fedora Core release 2 (Tettnang)
 on System with processor: i686
 supported by kernel:      2.6.5-1.358

 The kernel-2.6.5-1.358 was compiled with CONFIG_REGPARM, providing more compact and faster code.

 assembled with compiler:  3.3.3
 with current System compiler GCC=3.3.3
 Modem symbolic link is:  /dev/modem -> /dev/537
 COMM services are not active

 Under 2.6.n kernels, there is currently modem support by:
        the more expensive Controller chipset modems using the open source serial code
        Conexant software downloaded through http://www.linuxant.com
        SmartLink slmodem drivers, including USB hardware
        USB modems using the Open Source acm.ko driver
        Lucent DSP (digital signal processing) chipsets but NOT:
        soft modems ( though some are supported by slmodem drivers)
        Intel 536EP and 537 modems
 For all other modems, support projections are not available as of this update=2004_Aug_24

 PPP support module  bsd_comp.ko  not found!
 Resident PPP support modules are properly uncompressed .

  ======= Fedora code changes =======
 SmartLink slmodem-2.9.n, Lucent/Agere DSP,  Intel 536ep and 537 drivers are already Fedora competent.  For usage of winmodems with the kernel-2.4.nn Fedora releases  a change in the serial-like driver code of WinModems  is necessary.
 See for guidance:  http://hepunx.rl.ac.uk/~wmurray/pctel/pctel.html
 Basically , the line:
    if ((tty->count == 1) && (state->count != 1)) {
  should be changed into:
    if (atomic_read(&tty->count) == 1 && state->count != 1) {
  This works in the ltmodem code too. See
    http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/arch.../msg02360.html
  An error about "rs_close" during compiling is a signature that the fedora fix is needed

  Beginning with Fedora 2  kernel-2.6.6-1.427, kernel-headers needed for compiling drivers are provide at: /lib/modules/kernel-version/build/
  Thus upgrading above kernel 2.6.5-1.358 to 2.6.6-* is Stongly Recommended
  redhat is not yet providing pre-compiled drivers for WinModems

 An AC97 modem codec was not detected

i have tried this out
Use Intel-537-2.60.80.0.tgz
but with no luck

I am currently downloading an rpm update of the kernel from fc2 update. I'll post if i get somewhere with that

cuchumino 09-04-2004 11:26 AM

I have install the drivers for the intel-537 recommended in the modemdata fil, with no luck.

I have also recently installed a kernel update for fc2 kernel 2.6.8-1.521

I have had no go...

umm i think i can read something bout
Code:

on the start up secuence, its just that its at the end and i cant really read what else it says. It says something bout
Code:

Hi, you should use the Smart Link driver http://www.smlink.com/main/item.php?...=84&main_id=32

It worked for me, somehow, but it's now very slow. 0.1 Kbytes/sec :) Ahhh Linux.

whansard 09-26-2004 10:15 AM

use the old kernel and modules from the old linux, if you still have it. just an option.

HICKS200 09-27-2004 05:36 PM

hey

goto the intel site download the fedora core 2 driver and then install the fedora core 2 kernel source form the 3rd cd

GOOD LUCK because, i couldn't install the kernel source but if u can u wont need to surf on windows
