Intel 536ep modem & 2.6 kernel: tips for you.
Here are two tips which may be useful to other people out there trying to get the latest Intel 536ep modem driver kernel module to compile and install properly:
For reference, the driver package I am specifically referring to is called intel-536EP-2.56.76.0_23_02_2007 but similar packages might have the same issues.
1 - 'make config-sync' does not work correctly, so if you are getting errors about the running kernel not matching either the 'version.h' or 'autoconf.h' files, copy the file 'boot/vmlinuz.autoconf.h' ---> 'lib/modules/<uname -r>/build/include/linux/autoconf.h' and the issue should go away.
2 - If your kernel makes use of the config option 'Low-Latency Desktop' a.k.a. 'Preemptible kernel' preemption model, the modem driver module will not modprobe, and will not work. There are no problems with the other two preemption models available in .config, but this one does NOT work. It will compile fine, but won't modprobe.
