(newbie)

Hi,
I am trying to install a intel 536ep chipset modem.

When i try installing the generic driver i get something saying autoconf.h doesnt exist please install kernel source.

could anyone tell me how to do this please?

are the kernel source/modules on the disk - if so how do i find them and upgrade/install them onto the running system?

thanks guys

If you used the defaul OS installation, you may not have the development modules installed, which could mean that no compiler is there for new drivers. That's the problem I had with my SuSE 8.2 system-- it wouldn't find the kernel files or run the "make 536ep" command.

Thanks I managed to figure it out, I installed the kernel source - luckily it came on one of the installation discs and just ran it as an upgrade from boot.

One other thing though, it takes 4 attempt to connect the modem to the internet each time, I think its someit to with a termination on signal 15 - do you have the same problem and have you solved it so it connects first time?

Nope. Sorry. Have you checked your AT codes? (See "Details" on configuration "Edit" window). I added &F0 so it would go to the chipset default values. Maybe that'll help.
