Installing graphics card driver - cant be difficult? :) [Debian, Lenny]

Hello,
i have a Debian lenny System, on a System with onboard Intel GMA950 graphics Card. (Intel 945 Express Chipset)

I found the drivers on this page:
http://intellinuxgraphics.org/2009Q2.html

Containing of:
2D driver
3D driver
Kernel
LIBDRM

The problem is, until now i used synaptic, so i don't know how to install, or even where to start searching for information about installating this.

Share your expirience please

You have to fetch the packages you want with git and go from there.
Git may already be installed, if not, you should have it through synaptic.
I've never had the need to use git but as I understand it you do:

git fetch /link/to/the/package

Supposedly according to the link you provided the packages are source packages.
You would untar the package, open a terminal in the untarred package folder or browse to the package via a terminal and as user do:

./configure

after ./configure finishes and if it was successful, there should be a clear message to proceed to running make.
Simply type make and hit enter.
After make finishes there should be another clear message to run make install.
Su to root, type make install and hit enter.

Good luck!

Thank you,

./configure is the command i looked for.

1) __________________________________

Because now i knew the installation commands, i tried to execute ./configure, in order to install "Intel 2009Q2 graphics package" from http://intellinuxgraphics.org/2009Q2.html

The System asked my for packages

"xorg-server"
"fontsproto"
"xproto"

which synaptic doesn't know, and which seem to be unavailable for lenny.

I didn't know what to do, and tried to drop to previews version of intel driver

"Intel 2009Q1 graphics package":

Contained of:
2D driver: xf86-video-intel 2.7.0 release
3D driver: mesa mesa_7_4_branch commit
Kernel: drm-intel
LIBDRM: libdrm-2.4.9 release

2a) - libdrm-2.4.9

In order to install "Intel 2009Q1.." i installed
"libdrm-2.4.9 release", which is avaiable on the same site and
is required for other components.

Into console I entered :
./conigure [Enter]
make [Enter]
sudo make install [Enter] [Entered Password]

I think the installation worked fine, because there were no errors,
but no "installation complete" or comparable message either.

2b) - 2D driver: xf86-video-intel 2.7.0 release

I entered the same into the console, but now there were errors on "make" command.

Code:
user@s1:~/Desktop//xf86-video-intel-2.7.0$ make
..........................
..........................
..........................

                 from i810_accel.c:55:

make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/user/Desktop/xf86-video-intel-2.7.0'
make: *** [all] Error 2
user@s1:~/Desktop/xf86-video-intel-2.7.0$
I tried to execute "sudo make install" anyway, but i think i didn't succeed, because there were errors again:

Code:
Libraries have been installed in:
   /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/drivers

If you ever happen to want to link against installed libraries
in a given directory, LIBDIR, you must either use libtool, and
specify the full pathname of the library, or use the `-LLIBDIR'
flag during linking and do at least one of the following:
   - add LIBDIR to the `LD_LIBRARY_PATH' environment variable
     during execution
   - add LIBDIR to the `LD_RUN_PATH' environment variable
     during linking
   - use the `-Wl,--rpath -Wl,LIBDIR' linker flag
   - have your system administrator add LIBDIR to `/etc/ld.so.conf'

See any operating system documentation about shared libraries for
more information, such as the ld(1) and ld.so(8) manual pages.

How do i know, if the installation succeeded?
How can i activate the driver, if it succeeded?
There are two drivers 2D and 3D, i tried to install the 2D,
can i use only the 2D, without the 3D part?
