Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Installing CentOS 6 64 Bit with LSI 9260 HW RAID

Hello, I know how to install CentOS on software RAID, however I have a server I need to install today with CentOS 6 64 Bit, and the server has an LSI 9260 Hardware RAID card, with BBU.

Can someone please guide me on how to install this system? I am familiar with how to install CentOS and have done so many times with software raid, however this is my first time on hardware RAID. I assume I will need to boot up some sort of LSI utility iso and configure the raid, then install the OS on that raid?

This is a new server.

When the system is booting up, you should see the message "Press CTRL+H for webBIOS".. Press CTRL+H, configure your array w/ the utility, Then install CentOS normally. Once you have your system up and running, you'll probably want to install the MegaRAID management software from lsi.com.

To expand on what blueh20 says. A hardware raid has a boot time bios similar to the system bios. It has tools and diags and configuration ability. There you can find drives, create arrays.

After that (hopefully) Centos has built in support for the raid card/raid chip and you can install it to what the system now believes is a single drive (or what you created).

I believe this model is supported under the megaraid_sas module.
