installing canon pixma mp140

hello

I am using kubuntu and am trying to use a canon pixma mp140 printer, however it was not in the list of drivers. So I have install the driver files from canon:

cnijfilter-common_2.70-3_i386.deb
scangearmp-common_1.10-2_i386.deb
scangearmp-mp140series_1.10-2_i386.deb

When I installed cnijfilter-mp140series_2.80-1_i386.deb it didn't work so I installed cnijfilter-mp140series_2.80-2_i386.deb instead, which seemed to work fine. However, after I set up the printer it came up with the error:

"Missing driver:

Printer 'MP140-series2' requires the 'pstocanonij' program but it is not currently installed. Please install it before using this printer."

And I can't seem to find the 'pstocanonij' program anywhere.

Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?

Any help is apprecieted.
Thanks

You don't say if you installed all of the drivers you listed above. If not then you will need to install them all.

I tried to install the files from canon:

cnijfilter-common_2.70-3_i386.deb
scangearmp-common_1.10-2_i386.deb
scangearmp-mp140series_1.10-2_i386.deb
cnijfilter-mp140series_2.80-1_i386.deb

But when I installed cnijfilter-mp140series_2.80-1_i386.deb it didn't work so I installed cnijfilter-mp140series_2.80-2_i386.deb instead.

pstocanonij is a cups filter. You need to find it, and make a softlink to it: '/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij. If you have a '/usr/lib64/cups/filter directory, put a link to the filter in there too. Use 'locate pstocanonij' to find the filter. You make links using 'ln -s'

'locate pstocanonij' and 'whereis pstocanonij' both returned nothing. I don't think that 'pstocanonij' is anywhere on my computer, do you know where I could get it from?

The model number Canon PIXMA MP140.

Method 1:
You may refer to the below links and use the troubleshooters. Check if it lists and helps resolve any issues: Open the Printer troubleshooter:
http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer

Method 2:
You may check if you have the latest drivers installed for the device. You may refer to the below link for getting the latest drivers and check –

Good Luck.

Hi,

@myhs90

Your reference links do not provide driver information for Gnu/Linux. OSX or Microsoft, no real help to anyone wanting to configure this printer for Gnu/Linux from those sites.

You should check the post/thread dates first and then be sure the information you provide is constructive to the thread. Especially when the thread is that old.

thought it would be useful to the addition of new software.

thanks for the warning.
