Installation Fedora Core 5 Mouse Problem

I have recently joined LQ. A freelance writer and new to Linux programming.

This is the first time I am installing FC5.

First testing of the CDs was done and all CDs passed the test.

The BIOS setting of the system was changed to boot from CD-ROM drive.

System started with CD1in the drive.

Fedora Core Screen appeared, the installation ENTER was clicked.

After configuring the keyboard, the disk partition screen appeared.

UNFORTUNATELY, MY MOUSE DID NOT WORK.

Without the mouse it is not possible to carry on the installation and had to abort.

THE MOUSE IS WORKING FINE WITH WINDOWS XP.

What could be the reason and how should I proceed further to solve this problem.

I need help from members to advise how to solve this problem.

Waiting for replies

I'm completely new to linux as well. I'm only posting because no-one else has and I came accross something a while ago that might be relevant. If it's not, I'm sorry (and anyone feel free to set me straight if I'm talking bollox)!

You could try finding your X config file (it's maybe at /etc/x11/xorg.conf (???)), and looking for /dev/mouse. If you find it try changing it to /dev/input/mice. If it's already /dev/input/mice, I know not what to suggest!

Like I said, I'm new too. Anyone else...?

Hope you manage to get it sorted

Guys

When you post you need to give people who want to help you a chance. Always post your hardware specs: motherboard and bios, video card, the problem hardware and how it is connected(in this case usb/ps2/serial/other?).
