Thumbs down Install problem-system does not support pci

can anyone advise? I am installing RH8.0 on a dual boot system with windows ME. The boot message states "SYSTEM DOES NOT SUPPORT PCI". When I do LSPCI I get "cannot access error" or something like it. Could this message be the source of all my sound and modem install problems.

My System:
Duron 900
ECS motherboard w/ onboard AC97 sound w/onboard video-embedded 256 bit 3d agp.

This seems quite a common problem, judging by this google linux search - http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr...=Google+Search

Most of the replies suggest adding pci=bios to the boot options in lilo.conf to sort it out. (Open and edit /etc/lilo.conf and add that phrase to the append line)

append="quiet devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi"

Should become
append="quiet devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi pci=bios"

Then type in lilo to activate the changes, and reboot. See if it works.

Thumbs up

pci=bios seems to be the key statement for resolving detection of
on board devices. I inserted this in /etc/lilo.anaconda and rh8
immediately began detection of on board devices including ethernet, sound chip, modem etc. I just wonder if I can insert this when I do a reinstal because the new environment appearantly corrupted my dialing program in network control device.
I did not have a way to initiate the edited /etc/lilo.anaconda file other than to reboot because the command Lilo does not exist. Thanx for pointing me in the right direction for troubleshooting this pci detection problem.
