Install printer driver
I have just bought me a new printer. An HP D2400. Looks good.
Then I downloaded the Linux driver - hplip-2.8.5.run (and alternatively hplip-2.8.5.tar.gz )
I would like to know what is the best directory in which to install one of these drivers? Should it be the same directory as CUPS? Which is /etc or maybe /var/run
Or should it be just the regular /usr/local which is where I install all of the downloaded stuff?
I am using Slackware 12.0
No KDE or Gnome just the cholesterol-free xfce!
hplip-1.7.4a should already be in your system (it is in my 12.0)
Have a look in /var/log/packages to see where the files are (/usr basicly)
(To make a package list : 'ls /var/log/packages > my-packages.txt')
Thanks for that. This is what I did.
I had already downloaded hplip-2.8.5
So I put the zip file in /etc and unzipped. I followed the instructions on the hplip web page. At first it didnt work but after a reboot all was fine.
