Install HP printer on Ubuntu 8.04

I have just installed Ubuntu 8.04 on a Toshiba Satellite. I have downloaded and run the driver update on terminal. I get a message that says at`the end of step 10, "Package install command failed with error code 100". How will I deal with error code 100?? I have tried to install 12.04 which has the driver needed for the HP printer that I have, but my computer will not install it so this is the end of the line for the computer if I can't resolve the issue of error code 100.

Ubuntu 8.04 is no longer supported and I expect the error you get is in regard to that. Perhaps you could use another system if Ubuntu 12.04 won't install. What problems/errors do you get when you try? How old is the computer? You could post some information on your hardware and someone will probably be able to suggest a Linux distribution which will run on it.

8.04 is far out of date. Try Mint 13 Xfce if you have an older laptop.
