Hi
i also need to install from my hard drive because my cdrom isnt working
but i already have mandrive on one of the hard drive and i want to install debian on the other
but sorry but your explanation is a little confusing
i have to drive one has mandriva that is hda1 and i have hdd which is empty how do i go about it
New CD-RW drives are very cheap, around £10. I cannot think of any way to install without one. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/42134 Lite-On CD-RW for £5.87 + delivery
Your post appears to be a response from another thread which is confusing since we have no idea as to what you do not understand. This is why it is always a good idea to start a new thread instead of asking a question in an existing one. The Debian installation guide contains information on the different installation media.
The CDROM is probably the defacto standard installation media but there are other methods. nfs, http, PXE and even when the ISO file is saved to the hard drive. The alternatives still need a boot disk by which a USB flash drive works very well. On those PCs that can not boot from USB a minimal boot CD is also available. Obviously it depends on the distribution. Fewer distributions can use the floppy anymore due to the size of the kernel.
