Install driver before change video card is OK?

Hello
I think to change my video card.
But i was asking myself, it is not good idea first to install the driver and then change the video card?
What is your opinion?
Does somebody try it?

It would be better to remove the driver for your old card. Then add the new hardware. The system should detect and setup the appropriate driver. Failing that you should at the very least have 'vesa' mode. You can then install the driver yourself should your system fail to do so automatically or correctly.

What video card is this ? (both from and to)

Both are Nvidia
Old one is 8400GS
new one is:GT220

I asked that because I think also to change a motherboard and I dont know if I have to install some driver before changing.
In windows, i know that if I change the motherboard, windows became very unstable.
I tried that in Linux one 2 time, and Linux just run perfectly.
What is your opinion?

Not the same as Windows...

linux does not rely on seperate drivers for its hardware. There are exceptions and there are cases in which either a proprietary driver or a kernel module may be used. This is the case for Nvidia graphics chips and the cards containing them.

Both of your graphics cards are new enough to use the same Nvidia driver. You should be able to switch cards without a problem. Open the link to the Supported Products.

They both are new cards, you can do either and it should work, you can either upgrade before or after, it should work either way.
