Question Input/output error after mounting floppy and trying to access contents on GNU/Linux

Hi, I'm new to this so please bear with me!

I've checked the other threads on this and can't find an answer.

I am trying to read a floppy in Linux. The floppy contains .txt files added in an NT server environment.

I have tried all of the following commands which all appeared to work (I didn't get any error messages):

mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
mount -t auto /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

The resulting ls command looks like this:

[root@testserver3 /]# ls -all /mnt/floppy
total 11
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 7168 Jan 1 1970 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Oct 13 2005 ..
?--------- ? ? ? ? ? R4 Call Scenarios

Where "R4 Call Scenarios" (The directory I'm trying to look at) is in white writing on a pink background. I have no idea what this means???

when I run the following I get the following for all of the above scenarios:

[root@testserver3 floppy]# cd 'R4 Call Scenarios'
-bash: cd: R4 Call Scenarios: Input/output error

My fstab line for fd0 looks like this:

[root@testserver3 floppy]# cat /etc/fstab | grep fd
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,users 0 0

But I have also tried the following to no avail:

/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner,kudzo 0 0

the whole file looks like this:

[root@testserver3 floppy]# cat /etc/fstab
LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1
LABEL=/boot /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hda3 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner,kudzo 0 0

Any help hugely appreciated.

Thanks

Oli
