Unhappy im running the latest ubuntu release with a pci wireless card (linksys wmp54gs v1.1)


ok ubuntu tells me i can run the card if i use fwcutter so i went into windows downloaded it and installed it in ubuntu of my usb drive but when i try to enable my wireless card fwcutter says iut needs to download something but cant because i have no interenet access in ubuntu until i get my wireless card its a desktop and there is no wired connection in my apartment and i don't know anyone i can take my computer to do it via a wired connetion anyone have any ideas i can try? im a newbe but i have some knowledge and am willing to learn

ok bro. fwcutter's not the thing that drives your wireless card - it converts the windows driver to do that. go into windows, get the driver for your card from the manufacturer's website, and put it on the USB. take it to ubuntu and feed it to fwcutter. good luck man

ok duh lol i shoulda known that but i didn't and in a way maybe i did since i already downloaded it and put it on my usb but im not sure how to feed the driver into the fwcytter program

aite. say the driver is called driver.sys:

bcm43xx-fwcutter driver.sys

then there's further instructions for how to install the firmware here:

let me know if that's too technical or whatever, cause i can probably synopsise. - L

yeah, you're not done with it yet. what you just did, is pull the firmware for your wireless card out of the windows driver it was all packaged up in; now you gotta actually install it to your card. follow the instructions in the 'firmware installation' section of that link up there:
