If I change my CPU will I have to reinstall?
 

I'm thinking of switching out the Celeron (@500MHz) in this PC for a VIA C3.

According to multiple sources, a 1GHz VIA (Prolly Nehemiah) is more or less on-par with my current CPU, and since the power-consumtion is VERY low, it makes it a decent proposal, if I can find the blasted C3...

I wanted to know; would I have to reinstall Linux if I change my CPU?

Aaand, will a CPU with a FSB higher than that of my motherboard, will it be able to scale down? Or will it burn out? (I'm not too sure what the FSB of this machine is; the manual says 66MHz, but that might be for the CPU)

Yeah, looks like the C3s are all Socket 370. I'm not sure about C7s though, looks like they might have taken a new socket type, or taken another Intel from the Pentium 4 era.

But huzzah for not having to reinstall!~ Now just to find one of the buggers...

TRY tiger direct thats where I got mine for around 30.00$ , YES it is a socket 370 , I tried Suse 9.3 w/it but there is some bugginess,, Win XP pro works Great w/via CPU ,make sme wonder what is happening. Iam using a MACHspeed 694tas MOBO ,dated but OK.

I thought they have a bad Floating Point issue VIA cpu,s ???

why not go w/ Celeron 900mhz ?? try Pacific Geek.com , used or new.
