ieee1394 hard drive disappears

I am using a external hard drive with an ieee1394 connection, when connecting the drive at boot time, it gets recognized, and in linux I can mount the 4 fat partitions.
After a while, the drive seems to disappear, and I can not find the corresponding scsi devices.
Apparently I have to reboot to get it fixed, but then the trouble starts over and over again.
I have a dual boot with windows :-(( (I know, but I need it for work) and it is quite frustrating, in windows I never have this problem.

According to me the hardware works fine, but there are some problems with the drivers under linux.

thx,

raïs
