IBM Thinkpad R50 mic problem

Hi
I have Mandrake 10 installed on my IBM Thinkpad R50. The problem is that my mic (inbuilt) automatically starts taking in sound and furthermore outputting it to the speakers by itself when alsa is loaded at bootup time. How do I stop this?

You need to mute the microphone from the speaker output (but that's obvious).

I know in Slackware you can do it with "alsamixer" ("Advanced Linux Sound Architecture", which is an excellent sound architecture), but I'm not certain it's included with mandrake. I suggest you try typing it in the konsole and find out.

Anyway, you need to do the equivelant of muting the microphone output in the playback section of the windows volume control, if you're more familiar with that.
