IBM Thinkpad HD

I have an IBM Thinkpad w/ Intel PIII 700 MHz processor and Harddrive failure. Is it possible to replace this harddrive? What would be the type needed?

My intentions are to run the new Mandrake 9.2 on it, is this advisable or would I better use an other distro.

TNX 4 all help,
Elluva

You can use any 2.5" IDE hard disk. I would go for a 5400rpm drive since it adds a lot of performance over the older 4200rpm drives. A 7200rpm drive would be nice too but I am a little cautious about the amount of heat those drives generate.

I believe all Thinkpads have space enough to house a drive 12mm high, but most modern 2.5" drives are now 9mm high. That shouldn't be a problem.

Read the technical documents for your Thinkpad before trying to replace the disk. You can find the docs at IBM's website.
