I have mandriva(most recent iso from ftp) installed and working. Dual boot with windows. Winblows works fine but mandriva will not unless i'm connected direct to a monitor. My problem is this.. I dont have a monitor. I have a tv. I have tried the nvidia drivers(btw I have a geforce fx 5200 with svid and tv out), but when I do it does not install them. I cant remember the exact error that I get but it is something to do with the bin files... I'll post later today with the exact error. The thing is, I can get command line on the tv no prob, but x will not start. Is this a known issue? Does nix need something else running to pipe in output to the tv out on my vid card? Or do you think its a driver issue? Thanks

Never done this but I would say once the install is complete using a monitor of somekind, you will need to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to point to the TV out port as the monitor of choice. Note I do not know if this part of the nvidia. Might ask the nvidia linux developers or search the nvidia forum.
I think that I modified the wrong file. Not too sure though because it doesn't say which one to modify. Guessing by the last guys post here(thanks by the way, you pointed me in the right direction) I should use these instuctions for the xorg.conf? Please let me know if this is correct. Also, can anyone tell me what editor i can use from the command line for mandriva? I just need the command, and I can figure everything out from there. I've used pico and nano amoung others, but those dont seem to be included and when I went to do it in command line I couldn't.. obviously. Thanks for the help.

It is referring to xorg.conf file. Earlier X server releases have gone by a different name for this file. Been a long time and I forgot the old name for the config file.
Please let me know how you go, I've also had trouble with my FX5200 with TV out and I'd like to get my TV machine running Linux rather than Wintendo. X started OK but I'd get garbage on the TV using both S-video and video out. (just in case it matters, the TV is a 100Hz Grundig Elegance CRT).
ok.. so i changed the xorg.conf with the info from the nvidia site(link is in on of my last posts) That still did not work. I can log in, but as soon as i startx it gives me a black screen.. I'm not too sure where i can find the vert and horz sync of my tv or the hz range. would that be on the back of the tv? Or will i have to google it? I just copied and pasted the lines from the nvidia page into xorg.conf in the appropriate spot. Should the values be changed, or should I be doing something different. Thanks
