What model is it?

This is asked all the time, have you searched the Slack forum?

Basically modify your /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file and uncomment your particular module for your soundblaster card.

Then do this:

chmod 666 /dev/dsp* /dev/mixer*

That sets the settings so all users can use sound on your system. Reboot, check and see if it loaded your module for your sound card by issueing a:

lsmod

If so, test your soundcard out..

I tried what you said, and when i rebooted, i was watching all the things that come up, and somewhere along the line, it said the sb module had failed to load up...

Then i tried that lsmod anyway, and it didn't say anything about a soundblaster card being loaded, so... im totally stuck on what to do.

I've tried reading all the documentation that comes with slack 8.1, and the only thing i can find on soundblaster doesn't work! :'(

Btw its a soundblaster pro 16... i think :$ Any help?
