I need a mouse with side buttons that works out of the box with Ubuntu?

I preferably want to use a wireless notebook mouse with 11.04 Minimal Install, but any mouse and any version of Ubuntu will suffice.

It is not wireless, and I don't know about Ubuntu, but my Logitech MX518 worked out of the box with any distribution I have tried so far. Only the application changing button never worked, but I never looked into that, since I have no use for that button.

Is it true that if a mouse doesn't work out of the box with Ubuntu, I can just install Ubuntu xserver-xorg-input-mouse? Would this allow me to set commands to the buttons?

If the mouse doesn't work out of the box (and most do) come back here, tell us what is not working and we'll make it work.

My logitech 305 has 3 buttons, wheel, and tilt-wheel. It just worked.

I would think any Logitech, A4tech, and M$ mouse would work out of the box. I once bought a Genius mouse, but the side buttons didn't work.

I wonder why the M$ Wireless Mobile mouse series would not be considered wireless. For the like of me, I cannot see a wire leading to the USB port on my laptop from the mouse but a micro USB Trx/Rx . :)

As to setting up mouse configuration for the Xserver via 'xorg.conf' each mouse may require different settings. I'm using Slackware and do not need a 'xorg.conf' for new installs with a M$ Wireless Mobile mouse. I remember tweaking the 'xorg.conf' for this mouse on earlier Slack versions.
HTH!

I almost bought one of those (or the Rat 7) but decided against it because I saw some Linux users saying that it didn't work very well, have you ran into any problems?

I ended up buying a Razer Deathadder. It's a pretty simple 4 buttons usb wired mouse, but works like a charm. (Hell SlayerS`Boxer uses one, it has to be good :) )

My gearhead has a 30ft range, I got it so that I can use it from the bed which is about 14ft away.
Now I need a bigger monitor
