i just updated and i can't boot!

i updated my hardware.

here is the story-

look at my specs below first of all from below.

i am running mandrake on a 74gb hardisk. It was attached to a maxtor ata133 pci card. I removed this card and i put it on the motherboard so i can use its bios powermanagement to shut down the hardisk because i leave it on all the time and the hardisk was spinning all the time. It seemed under linux, the pci card won't shut it down or something. (if you guys know of a way, let me know)

okay, i moved the ribon from the pci card to the onboard ide.

when i boot up, my pc identifies the disk as 74gb and also shuts it down when it is used for a long period of time. my mandrake os wont boot because it says something about ....darn i forgot so i figured it needs to be remounted or something. i can't even get a logon or the kernel wont load or anything. I can how ever boot up if i run it off the ata 133 pci card from maxtor.

is there a way to update it without reinstalling?

Your installation CD will most likely provide some sort of rescue mode, whether it's just a shell run from the CD or a fully automatic recovery thingy. Since you have moved the disk from one controller to another you will probably:

a) have to change the device names in /etc/fstab to the new ones. Say /dev/hde becomes /dev/hda or something similar.

b) you will have to reinstall your bootloader to the mbr of your disk
