I have a choice of second-hand hardware for a trial system...
A bit of trivial stuff for you...
I have set up a trial system in-house using WhiteBox Linux. The system will host a small Intranet and eGroupware with a MySQL database behind the scenes.
Once the system has been 'shown off' to the powers that be it will probably be moved to a brand new hardware platform - but at the moment I'm limited to using some old hardware.
I am currently running the system on a Dell PowerEdge 1300 with 320MB RAM and a single PII-400 processor although there's a slot for a second processor and I could probably find another old PII machine somewhere in our empire and grab its processor for the PowerEdge.
Under my desk I have a single CPU PIII-750 system into which I could swap the disks.
So my question is: What would perform better as a server for perhaps 10-15 users on a trial using eGroupware - a twin PII-400 or a single PIII-750.
Just wondered.
Thanks
NK
