I don't know how to start looking for drivers

I am totally new to Linux so please excuse silly questions.I have a laptop computer running windows xp. I want to run windows xp and Mandriva linux as a dual operating system, but how on earth do I go about getting linux drivers. Does linux have any plug and play capability or will i have to go looking for, and install drivers for everything - i.e. for my graphics card (built into the main board, so I don't know which drivers to look for), sound (same thing again), printers etc.

Thanks,
t
