Hi,

On my Debian system (using kernel 2.4.22) I had the same problem.
But then last night, I tried switching around with the jacks, now it works!
Speakers: pink (mic) - For some weird reason the sound IS in STEREO
Line in: blue

The "Speech POST Reporter" doesn't work after this, but who wants that noise anyway?

I Don't know, why it works (maybe it's ASUS's implementation of the Intel Audio chip or something - or in connection with the kernel module...) switching the jacks, but hey - it works...

But there is no mic in...

Peace!

If you guys haven't fried your motherboards yet, you need to go to http://www.alsa-project.org/ and get the drivers and install ALSA for your sound. There is another post in LQ where the mic jack being used was discussed, and someone who had fried their motherboard doing this posted it.

I have the P4PE motherboard, and the onboard soundchip will even work in 5.1 mode. However, you need to install the ALSA drivers for it to work.

Get the first three files off the ALSA home page (driver, library, utilities) and then follow the instructions here http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...odule=intel8x0 verbatim. If you do, you'll get sound with the speakers plugged into the proper jacks. I hope you still get notice of a post to this thread.
