I can't choose my cd to boot from
 

I can't choose my cd to boot from. I tried the f12 set up and going into the bios. I can not get the cd-rom to get a + sign on it. what I am talking about is :

cdrom
+floppy
+harddisk

I can add the ! which removes the drive but I can not + add it to the boot sequence. when I hit f12 I get the option to boot from cdrom but it won't boot the fedora core 4 cd.

Have you tried taking the "+" sign from the floppy and placing it on the CD-ROM?

See if you can flash your BIOS to a newer version.

Your question isn't clear. Is the problem that you can't choose CD-ROM as a boot option, or that when you choose it, your system just boots from the hard drive as normal? If it's the latter, the most likely cause is that your FC4 CD wasn't burned properly.

Check that the md5 checksum for the downloaded ISO is valid, and make sure your burn the ISO as an image, not a regular file (dragging and dropping won't work, you'll need to choose the "Burn as Image" option in your app). If the md5sum doesn't check out, then the image is corrupt and you'll need to download it again. Good luck with it

ok cuiq first. I do not know how to transfer the + on the floppy and harddisk and move it to the cdrom.

charred- I do now know how to flash to a new bios. Is there a tutorial to teach me to do this right? I would hate to mess this up even worse.

J.W. I used k3b to burn them But I will check them to make sure that they are downloaded right. I tried cdrecord -v -eject speed=4 dev=1,0,0 FC4*1.iso
to burn them but for some reason my dvd-rw wont burn them because somehow the driver was changed durring an apt-get update. which is a different post.

Go to your box manufacturer's website. There should be information on BIOS updates there. Even though it's not that hard, it does have certain inherent risks. Perhaps you should leave off flashing the BIOS until you're more comfortable with the idea, or you've run out of options.
