My cdrom won't read. I've had this problem for about 4 weeks but never got around to fixing it. It just says no medium found. The thing is is that when I start Linux the startup screen says that it reads the drive. If i press the button it opens and when I start the computer it goes through the motion of checking it (I get the whirlly sound). It doesn't work in Linux or Windows. I'm getting pretty frustrated and I have an extra one but I don't want to switch and find out it's a mother board problem or something like that.
Doubtful that its the motherboard if everything else is working, Is there a disk in the drive? sometimes it wont mount unless theres a disk in the drive. but if its not working at all under win or linux swap it out, Its really easy.
