Question I'm a newbie, please help, hard drive problem!

I have a Quantum 6.4gb ATA66 IDE drive, part# KA06A881.

When I first load the RedHat Linux 7.3 CD, it freezes at "reading the partition".

I know there is nothing wrong with my config, because the installation works fine on a number of my IDE drives...

What am I doing wrong??

I have tried creating different types of partitions, no partitions... you name it, I've tried it.

Thanks in advance!

Cable/Master/Slave

I've tried all the combinations of the jumpers on the drive from cable select, master & slave.

No luck.

I take it you have defined ur partitions,,,,,ext2 and swap,,,how big ur ext2 and swap drives, are any other os on your hard drive,,,you know linux not like above 1024 for its MBR. Just one drive?

did you do a "fdisk /mbr" before you started?

problem still

Yeah, I've tried everything... even what you had suggested.

I'll try slaving the quantum drive to another master drive that I've loaded Linux on.

The strange thing is that this drive works in all dos/windows environment and it's not that old...
