HyperThreading Issues
I'm currently running a New Gentoo Box and I am trying to get the last kinks figured out. One of those kinks is trying to get my P4/HT processor be seen as a HT Processor. Here's some forensics kind of stuff. The live CD install for Gentoo saw it as 2 processors and I believe Knoppix also sees it as 2 processors.
my current .config Code:

All you have to do is make sure you selected multi-processor support (Symmetric Multi Processing I think it is called) and select the P4 as your processor in the kernel options. |

It should show both. My suggestion is load the live cd and compare the cfg. and look at the modules too. |
