HPLIP installation in Debian

I'm buying a Hewlett Packard all-in-one and will want to install HPLIP (in Debian Etch). Would it be better to download HPLIP from the HPLIP.sourceforge.net site or install the .deb package available from Debian (via apt). Any advice much appreciated.

Depends on the model you've bought. The 'fresh' tarball from the HPLIB guys might support your model whereas the Debian package doesn't do so yet. Find out if the .deb supports the model you want and install it if it does. Otherwise, use the tarball from sourceforge.
