hplip does not support printing to windows printers

If you are trying to use hplip to print to a printer that is connected to your network via a windows computer....don't bother, it cannot currently be done! Hplip is ONLY for printers with A DIRECT CONNECTION TO NETWORK OR CONNECTED TO LINUX BOX USB PORT!!

I actually wasted a lot of time trying to get hplip to function because when I read: http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/productsmf.php
and found my printer listed as having usb/network support, I took it to mean that it would support connecting to a windows shared printer. Silly me. I hope this helps you other silly people who thought the same thing.
Don't be shy about letting the developers know how great it would be if they supported this setup! The squeaky wheel gets the code. Or is it, feed a code, starve a beaver? I always get those two mixed up.

interesting entry, i have been trying to get my HP5850 printer to work with hplip (according to HP, it's supported with hpijs and hplip)...

it fails to find the printer in the network and i dont know why :S any ideas?

our network is consisting of a mac, a pc, and my dual boot (debian sid, win 2k) laptop. we have an apple airport and use wireless network all around the house, the printer is working on this wireless network as well. we have been using it for a long while now, without any problems..

any help would be really appreciated
