Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question HP ScanJet 4470 Scanner not supported in Mandrake 9.2

Hello, I'm a Linux newbie; I recently posted a thread about getting my nVidia video card to work correctly in Mandrake Linux 9.2. I got some great advice ad now my OpenGL works like a charm!

Now my problem is getting my scanner to work; it is a HP ScanJet 4470c, it is connected through USB to the computer. I have had this scanner for about 2 years, so I was rather surprised to learn, after running ScanDrake, that it is "not supported in this version of Mandrake Linux".

I'm just wondering if there is some way to use maybe a generic driver, or work around this somehow.

TIA, Randman35
