I just got a HP PSC1205. I have taken a look at linuxprinting.org and am trying to work with HP to get it installed.

I am a complete and utter newbie and would appreciate any step by step instructions that might get me up and running.

I have downloaded:

hpoj-0.91.tgz
HP-PSC_1205-hpijs.ppd
libusb-0.1.7.tar.gz

1. I currently have hpoj 0.90-14 and hpoj-devel 0.90-14 installed. Should I uninstall both and will rpm -e hpoj do that for both? (I know that I need to install hpoj-0.91 in order to proceed with the 1205)

2. Which additional RPMs ought I to have installed - baring in mind that the 1205 is a printer, scanner and copier?

3. Once I have uninstalled hpoj-0.90-14, where should I extract hpoj-0.91.tgz before installing it?

If anyone can help with these first steps I think I should be ok thereafter...

I have the same printer/scanner.

I managed to get the printer aspect of it working perfectly using the "foomatic + hpijs" driver which came with my distro (Xandros Desktop 2)

If you have any luck getting the scanner to work, please let me know!
