HP psc 120 & SuSE 8.1
I would like to buy an HP psc 1210 printer-scanner-copier. I am running SuSE 8.1 which does not supprt the HP psc 1210. I checked the SuSE Hardware Database for both SuSE 8.1 & 8.2 and they only go up to HP psc 900.
I did find out that I need the HP driver hpijs 1.4.1. SuSE 8.1 uses hpijs 1.2.1.
Question is: Can I download hpijs 1.4.1 and install it without affecting the rest of the SuSE printer setup? I would like to keep the version of cups that SuSE installed since it also installed a really nice KDE/cups interface. The interface only works with the installed version of cups.
Once I install hpijs, will I have to also install the latest foomatic database? When you install a printer using YaST2 you get a list of printers to chose from. Don't know it the list comes off of the database or gets updated when you install the new driver. I suspect it comes off of the database since you pick the driver once you select a printer.
I am assuming that once I get the printer to work that YaST2 will install the scanner. I guess you just use SANE .
Any suggestions or words of wisdom ? I really don't want to do semething dumb and screw up all my printers just because it would be nice to have the all-in-one hardware package.
Anybody out there been through this or know how to update SuSE 8.1 to use a HP psc 1210?
Thanks in advance.
