HP Pavilion notebook: Full screen in console mode

I have a HP Pavilion. Debian Linux works fine in my machine, but the graphic card (an ATI Radeon IGP 320m) is not compatible (like ACPI), so I have to use vesa mode. The problem I have is that in console mode, there is no full screen, but a 640x480 square. I thought that there wasn't any solution, but in knoppix, full screen in console mode was supported O_o. Maybe the kernel has something that has to be activated, I don't know what. Can anybody help me?

You need to enable frame buffer support and select the right driver.
Read fb.txt in the kernel documentation.
