HP6110x dead after Mandrake 10.0 install
Have experienced the same problem. Both HP6110x and HP4L attached to different machine on network stopped working after the installation of Mandrake 10.0 - both had been working perfectly for over a year running Mandrake 9.1; and both work fine now under WinXP.
The problem, as revealed by Cups is:
Printer State: processing, accepting jobs.
"USB port busy; will retry in 30 seconds..."
Device URI: usb:/dev/usb/lp0
In addition, a new device has appeared: ptal:/mlc:usb:OfficeJet_6100_Series
Selecting this device does no good. After learning this, if you try to select the correct USB port again, it shows up as:
usb://Hewlett-Packard/OfficeJet%206100%20Series?serial=MY37QH70RG2R
Not exactly a valid port name. Having been a programmer, network engineer, and systems designer for only 26 years, I am completely baffeled by this. Also, when one trys to make changes in the printer setup it now takes several trys for the correct un/pw to be recognized, and requires the use of the "backspace" key (pressed a couple of times) in each input field to get the system to accept the User input.
The HP4L (can it get any more generic?) on a Mandrake 9.1 box says it is receiving an "Illegal User Command"; however NFS, and all other network functionality is just fine.
If anyone has found a way to win this wrestling match, please advise. Complete, and sequenced partial, uninstall/reinstalls - and network disconnected reinstalls - yield no result.
A network that cannot produce output is useless - so I am having to use XP. Writing from computer hell.....
