HP 5550 not listed under Model/Driver in CUPS

Debian SID kernel 2.4.26

When attempting to configure this printer through the CUPS web interface it is properly recognized under the 'Device'menu as USB Printer #1 (hp deskjet 5550).

Model/Driver:

Raw
APPLE
CANNON
DYMO
EPSON
HP
LEXMARK
OKIDATA
Postscript

Where did 'Hewlett Packard' go??
As I recall there used to be 2 choices for HP printers, HP & Hewlett Packard. I continue and select 'HP' but under the Model/Driver for HP selection menu model 5550 it is not offered as a choice!! There are in fact very few choices. Any idea what I've got wrong here?

Some progress. I can print using the CUPS+Gimprint driver but it's ugly. I can also print using the turboprint driver which looks fantastic but unfortunately costs $25 US.
