Hp 4160

I've been trying to get my HP 4160 working for a couple hours now. I have installed hplip and hpijs. My printer is recognized
Code:
# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 009: ID 0451:2046 Texas Instruments, Inc. TUSB2046 Hub
Bus 001 Device 014: ID 0424:2502 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 015: ID 03f0:7704 Hewlett-Packard

# dmesg
ub.c: new USB device 00:1f.2-2, assigned address 14
hub.c: USB hub found
hub.c: 2 ports detected
hub.c: new USB device 00:1f.2-2.1, assigned address 15
printer.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 15 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x03F0 pid 0x7704
I have followed instructions on http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/step4/index.html

With the cups setup, there is no entry like hp:/usb/hp_deskjet_5600?serial=MY31R1K02179

With the hp-setup script I get an error
Code:
# hp-setup

And then if I run it again without restarting hplip I get
Code:

I don't know what else to look at to get this printer working.

have verified for all the requirements? http://hplip.sourceforge.net/system_requirements.html

Now the HPLIP contains the HPIJS driver. The only difference is the HPIJS is just the driver itself. The HPLIP has the HPIJS driver and addtional gui features for AIO printers to easily setup scan and faxing.

Follow Up

I have since installed all the system requirements except foomatic-db-engine. I am able to configure it, but when I run make, I get the following.

Code:
# make
chmod a+rx ./makeDefaults
./makeDefaults
if [ x = x--inplace ] ; then touch .testing-stamp ; fi
gcc -g -O2 -I/usr/include/libxml2 -L/usr/lib -lxml2 -lz -lm -o foomatic-perl-data foomatic-perl-data.c
/usr/lib/libz.so: undefined reference to `errno'
/usr/lib/libxml2.so: undefined reference to `gzrewind'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [foomatic-perl-data] Error 1
#
Has anyone run into this error before?

No idea on what the error means to me. Just a thought maybe try the hplip again and see if it works.

I wanted to bring this back. I haven't been able to get my printer working yet.

I have upgraded to slackware 11.0. I have hpijs installed. I don't need hplip for this printer.

When I try to add the printer through cups, the model isn't listed. I have tried to add various models, but nothing is working. I try to send a job to the printer, and the printer acts like nothing was sent.

There are errors when I try to submit the test page, but for some reason, I cannot get to the web interface now to submit a test page or add the printer (I deleted it when it wasn't working).
