Howto Physcal Hard drive install on DL320

Hi guys,
Currently, I've installed the OS on DL320. It' suppose come with 2 hard drives. The box is running Raid. How do I confirm the box came with 1 physical or 2 phyical hdd? I know I can only verify to it in front of the rack or reboot it and check the boot up. However this box is in remote site.

Appreciate if you could tell me the way via remote.

Thanks guys

You say it is "running RAID". If hardware RAID (e.g. you have a RAID controller in the box or you are attached to external storage) you'd only see the logical disks presented by that to the OS as if they were physical disks. (i.e. 2 disks in RAID1 and 4 disks in RAID 5 would appear to be 2 disks to the OS).

If software RAID you could use mdadm to see the individual components. Since you are running LVM it doesn't seem likely you're also running software RAID.

You also say "DL320" - You might want to be sure to include HP/Compaq Proliant in your description - not everyone knows what a "DL320" is.

There may be Linux installable utilities to see what you're config is. For example Dells use PERC (PowerEdge RAID Controllers - hardware RAID) with the megaraid driver and megamon can give details of the config of the PERC.

Doing a quick Google search found the following link that provides a config utility for Linux for a RAID controller for DL320 though I don't know if it is the one you are using:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/fi...oad/25044.html

You didn't say which Linux distro version you're using on this box. If it is a later RedHat or Fedora running "kudzu -p" may tell you what kind of RAID controller you actually have. Also running lspci may show it to you. lsmod may show you which module (driver) you're running to support the controller which may lead you to further information.

Also as a note. You didn't provide output of vgdisplay but your other output indicates you are using Logical Volume Manager (LVM). vgdisplay would show you if you had included more than one drive in the Volume Group (VG),VolGroup00, or had more than one VG.

P.S. Thanks for dmidecode - hadn't run across that command before.

jlightner,
First of all, thanks for your comments and useful command. I am sorry about that. My information is not enough.
I am using HP 320 G model and FC5/6 is sitting on it.
I am new to hardware. May I know from the result below you can see whether 1 hdd has been installed or 2 hdd.

From the command, I can see few lines are related to the HDD

Well it confirms c0d0 is presented to the OS by the RAID controller you have. Unfortunately it doesn't say what comprises that disk. It seems unlikely it would have a RAID controller and only 1 disk but not impossible.

Possibly looking the link I posted would offer a tool that would.
