Howto install a SATA drive on SiI3512A controller

I have a Shuttle XPC with Silicon Image 3512A chipset on the motherboard. Yast offers a selection of SCSI/raid controllers to choose from and SiI3512A is there! On choosing it, it performs an "insmod ataraid", which it reports as OK but then fails when performing an insmod for module "silraid" the module fails to load with error "init_module: no such device" Is it looking for a parameter to be passed to it? My distribution is SuSE 9.0 I have exchanged emails with Suse support but they don't seem very interested in my problem.

Maybe just possibly because linux doesn't support SATA drives until kernel 2.6 comes out?
