howto configure keyboard

Hi, guys.

I'm a newbie and would like to know how to configure my keyboard's output and how to know the keyboard's output configuration that matchs my keyboard. That's because one of the keys (<>) stop working in my Linux, but it works with other OS. In addition, the "g" and "h" keys dont work eventually.

Configure keyboard's layout. In KDE it's done by going so:
Menu=>Control Centre=>Regional & Accessibility=>Keyboard Layout
Select profile with suits your keyboard perfectly
In Gnome same procedure through Gnome Control Panel=>keyboard=>layout

I appreciate your attention in these simple things. KDE control center works great. I could even select my laptop model and now keyboard's layout suits perfectly.
