How whould I determine my PCIe slot speed?

I'm running Suse 11.1 on a Dell SC440.
According to my Dell manual, I have 1x, 4x, and 8x slots.
If I were to plug in a card to the 4x slot, does anyone know of a way I can find out how many lanes are being used?

Better yet, does anyone know if there is a way to determine how many lanes the slots have without anything plugged into the slots?

The bus connectors on the board appear as though they would support the advertised card (they have contacts for the length of the connector).

Thanks in advance!

lspci -vv

if you are not told explicitly, you'll be told which generation it is (fingers crossed).

AFAIK: The actual speeds/clocks etc are set by the specification.

PCIe 3.0 has a transfer rate of 1GiBps.

Thank you very much.
Under "Capabilites: " it lists the width as x8. An I'm pretty sure that's what I needed to know.

That was quick
Thanks again!
