how to use ati graphics chipsets in qemu/other vms without driver in guest system

sorry i dont know where to place this thread, found no vm-forum.

my problem is, i dont trust ati and i dont want to install the binary-only drivers for my ATI-Radeon-X1250-based grpahics card on my debian (64-bit) system. but i'd like to use it under WIND0WS - the graphics card is too good for not using it. is i possible use my vm full-screen and give my virtual system direct access to the graphics card?

i used qemu but it only allows me to choose one out of two graphics cards - both vary slow on my vm... any idea?

G'day, my understanding is that QEMU only provides emulation of the video card, basically to capture graphics calls and rewrite them for X. Thus, QEMU won't let you directly access your video card.

Why don't you want to run the ATI drivers? What do you suspect them of doing to your system?

For better performance of Windows XP within QEMU, check out the Wikibook on QEMU: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/QEMU/Wi...sing_the_image

Its just that feeling of not having all control -- i dont know what else is in the ati drivers.
is there any other virtual machine which what i could get direkt access

None that I know of. Xen and VirtualBox both derive from QEMU, and present emulated video cards to the guest OS. Your best best is to tune your Windows guest to call upon the graphics a little less, as described on that Wikibooks page.
