Talking How to upgrade your ati radeon drivers!

HOW TO UPGRADE YOUR ATI DRIVERS

To install ati radeon drivers for the first time in Mandrake 10.0 ( and general in 2.6.xx kernels ) go here :

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=166002

Since u've done this new drivers will come out ( hope so cause ati drivers really su@k!)

To update them do the following

(1) Go to www.ati.com goto drivers -->linux--graphics driver-->(choose your radeon)-->go

(2)Download the latest driver for your xfree86 ( for most modern distros it's 4.3.0 )

(3) open up a console and
su
(give root's password)
init 3

(4) Give root's username (root) and password

(5) Change directory ( cd ) wherever you downloaded your ati drivers

(6) rpm -ivh --force (driver's_name).rpm

(7) cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod

(8) sh make.sh

(9) cd ..

(10) sh make_install.sh

(11) fglrxconfig

Give the appropriate settings for your system ( eg monior settings , resolutions , etc...) and make sure that when it asks you about agp gart module to say Y andnot the default N (no)

(12) Reboot and voila!

PS1 To make sure u have installed everuthing right when u reboot open up a terminal and
fglrxinfo
The output should be something like this

Loading required GL library /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9600 Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.3 (X4.3.0-X.X.X)

(where X.X.X is the driver's version (eg 3.9.0) )
