How to turn off the annoying beep

When I log in through the console (non X env) I get this annoying *beep* on every error (command completeion et al). How do I turn this off??

That's kinda desktop specific, if you want to just whack it from anything running on X, take a look at xset. For instance:

xset b off

Will just turn it off, if you check the man page for xset you can choose the volume, the pitch in hertz, and even the duration in milliseconds. xset rules...

hi i had the same problem and i fixed it
i saw this in anothe rpsot in this forum:

there are probably 2 ways of doing it...

Ctrl Center => Regional & Accessibility => Accessibility => Bell => untick use system bell

or

Ctrl Center => Sound & Multimedia => System bell => use system bell instead of system notification (Dont forget to turn the volume to 0%).

The second one worked for me
