How to tell Xorg it can go up to 85 Hz ?

Hi

I have an ATI Radeon that can drive 2 monitors. When I use only one, I am able to get a 85Hz refresh rate. If I was using two monitors, it would decrease down to 60Hz.

I'm using only one monitor, with a 85Hz rate.

Whatever I tell to Xorg in xorg.conf, it does not seem to be able to give me more than 60Hz, as if it was thinking I have two devices active, or that it is the second one that is active.

I found no clue in "man xorg.conf", except that it has a "screen 0" or "screen 1" sections, wich did not resolve my problem.

Anyone can help me ?

you need to edit the part that says "HorizSync" e.g. in my case its as follows,

HorizSync 31.5 - 64.3

so just change the range to the one compatible with your system.

That's what I did. I put here my monitor's specifications 50.0 - 120.0

I don't know what to do else...

When changing the screen configuration through gnome menu in slackware, it is written "85Hz", wich is not true, because I have an option in my monitor that allow me to see the value of the current refresh rate).

Gnome shows me the correct value it should be (85Hz), but this is not the actual one (60Hz).

I really think the problem is linked to the dual head of the Radeon card. In xorg.conf, the server name is "VESA Framebuffer". I don't even know if it is correct...
