how to recover data from dead external usb harddrive
 
Hi every one.This community is very helpful to me.i have one external usb harddisk but its not getting detected any where.i have some important data.i want to recover that data.so could any one telme how to recover data from dead usb external hard drive.any help appreciated please helpme.no hardware is detecting but one small green light is coming.

Possibly the disk is good...

Can you take the disk out of its box put it in another USB box, or connect it directly to your system controller on the motherboard? This is hoping that the HDD is not the problem.

At the moment, when the HDD is connected at boot, does it spin up? Will it not mount with a live-cd such as PartedMagic or SystemRescueCD?

Sorry for late reply actually i forgtton that i have posted my problem here.I tried everything with live cd and puppy linux also.but the usb hard drive is not detecting anywhere.only green light is coming when i connect my hd to usb and no spin nothing is happen.Is hard disk is ok or it got failed.i tried recovery tools also but no gain sofar.could any one telme wht should i do in order to recover data from undetected hard drive.plz helpme

If it is not spinning then it is kaput ! Only chance now is professional recovery in a clean room ... expensive.

However, I would first take the HDD out of the case (if possible) and plug it in using a SATA interface or whatever it has, just in case something in the USB part of it failed.
